After Christmas Blues

Ever wonder why we have the after Christmas blues? Because there is a Jesus-sized hole in our hearts that we tried to fill with presents, cookies, and fun. Those will never satisfy us like God can. According to Loretta G Breuning, “Dopamine floods us when we're anticipating a pleasurable experience. Oxytocin delivers the sense of acceptance, belonging and attachment that we feel when spending time with friends and family, meeting our biological need for being part of a social order that provides safety.”


Jesus is Emmanuel, God With Us! Our God was born as a baby so He could live on this Earth like us and experience the trials and temptations as we do. Yet He lived without sin so He could be sacrificed in our place for our sins. There are things we can do to still be in the Christmas season. We can read God’s Word, meditate and talk to Him. Philippians 4: 8, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”


Advent is an eager anticipation of promises fulfilled. Let’s reflect on the gift of God’s presence and all He has done in our life. Christmas is just getting started. Let’s anticipate, with great expectations of His mighty wonders and His return!
