Faith In Action

This morning Mike and I were concerned about making our connecting flight before we got to the airport. As we were waiting to deplane our first leg there was a lot of grumbling about not making their connecting flight. This sweet young mother, sitting behind us, was standing with us and said, loudly, "I am going to claim right now in the name of Jesus Christ that we are all going to make our flights and we do not have to worry! In the name of Jesus I ask this!" Mike said, "AMEN!" I was in shock at her boldness! Mike and I had prayed for God's divine intervention before we got to the airport. And then we worried about it.

Not my bold sister in Christ. Luke 9: 26, "Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels." We are not to be ashamed to speak his name or to stand by every word he has spoken. She boldly claimed Jesus' power in a small space for many to hear. Who knows what these words meant to some people?

Jesus says that we should go into our closet and pray to our Father who is in secret. Matthew 6:6, "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Jesus modeled this for us when He would go into the wilderness to pray. Jesus also taught us about corporate prayer modeled throughout the New Testament. Matthew 6: 5, "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full." Our private prayer gives us a heart of humility which protects us from pride when we pray in public. The more intimate time we spend with our Father in our private place, the less we will want to be seen in the public space. This girl had a heart of humility and a lot of faith! May I learn from her! God, please bless this sister, her little boy, her grandfathers birthday and their trip! Her actions preached a sermon to me today and I thank You!

Did we make our connecting flight? I hope to share for Monday!
