As the new year starts I am reminded of the little drummer boy. The song tells about a little boy who was told to come see the new born King. Everyone would be honoring the newborn king by bringing their finest gifts to lay before him but he was poor and didn’t have any gifts fit for a king. He could play his drum. The little boy began to play his very best for the new born king. As we go into a new year, we should strive to give our best to the King!
We have all heard that no gift is too small for God. We should give from our heart - what we can - with a joyful heart. 2 Corinthians 9: 7," Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." The little drummer boy got this. God wants to see us cheerfully giving whatever we have to give. 1 Corinthians 10: 31, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." When we are grateful for the grace and forgiveness, mercy and compassion shown to us we are grateful and we want to give back.
1 Peter 4: 10, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms." We have all been given a gift and we should be using it to build up the Kingdom of God. He deserves our all. The lines at the end of the song are, "I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum. Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum." The newborn King was smiling at the little drummer boy, pleased with the music. One day we will stand before Jesus and see what His response is toward our gifts. We should be aiming to hear Matthew 25: 21, "Well done my good and faithful servant!”
